Dongying: A Cyberpunk-Inspired Boutique Design by Jason Chan

A Unique Blend of Art, Technology, and Geometry

Cyberpunk, once a counterculture movement, has now become mainstream, infiltrating various forms of media such as literature, movies, and anime. Dongying takes inspiration from this cyberpunk aesthetic, incorporating its elements into every aspect of the design. The result is a unique and futuristic space that captivates visitors.

One of the standout features of Dongying is its use of transparent geometry, creating a sense of dislocation and visual intrigue. The combination of brushed stainless steel, terrazzo, colored laminated glass, glass brick, and volcanic stone adds depth and texture to the design, while LED display lights and neon lamps enhance the futuristic atmosphere.

The 400-square-meter space is divided into different areas, each with its own distinct design elements. The main entrance bar combines functionality with artistic vision, featuring minimalist lines and a transparent glass laminate that showcases products in a visually stunning way. The hair cutting area draws inspiration from suitcase seats, creating a unique and immersive experience for customers. The ironing and dyeing area extends the cyberpunk elements, with glass as the main material.

Privacy is also a key consideration in the design. The washing area is separated by double velvet soft curtains, ensuring a sense of privacy and comfort for customers. The leisure area is adorned with simple lines and geometric symbols, creating a relaxing and visually pleasing space.

The Dongying project, which started in March 2020 and was completed in August 2020, showcases the fusion of art, technology, and design. It challenges traditional notions of retail spaces and creates an immersive environment that transports visitors into a cyberpunk-inspired world.

Recognized for its innovative design, Dongying was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges the project's outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
